The bounce house was invented by someone who worked for NASA!
That's right. Next time you rent a bounce house you can tell your friends it's real space age technology. The bounce house was invented by engineer John Scurlock from Shreveport, Indiana in 1958. Not only did Scurlock invent the bounce house and work for NASA, but he also invented the safety air cushion used by fire fighters to escape tall buildings. What a genius! Originally bounce houses were space race-themed, reflecting the era at the time, and his original company producing them was called Space Walk Inc. Over time they started to incorporate more and more themes, and today pretty much everything imaginable can be found on a bounce house. The NASA connection is also why bounce houses are called 'moonwalks'!
The largest bounce house ever is over 1,000 square meters!
Known as The Big Bounce America, this gigantic bounce house first opened in 2018. It incorporates slides, ball pits, a basketball court and even a DJ booth. It now travels around the country as a traveling festival. The longest marathon jump on a bounce house was 48 hours!

It was set by a group from Swansea, UK called Bounce for Golau in October 2017. Just imagine how many calories they must have burned!
