HOW TO PLAY
Objective of the Game:
Advance through all nine squares of the game to reach the center square and remain there as long as you can.
Basic Game Play:
The play in the center square, with both feet on the floor, serves the ball in any direction into an adjacent square. All serves and hits must be single strokes (no catching, holding or carrying the ball). The receiving player must hit the ball out the top of their square and into another. Players may only hit the ball one time on their turn, Play continue in this manner until someone is eliminated.
How is a player considered out?
- They fail to return the ball to another player's square
- The player double hit the ball
- The ball is hit outside the entire game structure
- The player touches the game structure during play (This rule is optional during free play)
The player who is eliminated will exit the game and get in line and wait to re-enter. The remaining players advance forward in a clockwise manner to fill the empty square of the eliminated player (see diagram). A new player will enter the game in square one. Once all players are in place, the center player serves again and play continues.
Determining the Winner:
Competitive Play:
With competitive play, the player in the center square receives one point each time another player is eliminated. Before the game starts determine if the game will end when a player:
- Reaches a defined amount of points (example: 9)
- Earns the most points in a single amount of time (example: 9 minutes of game play)
Free Play:
On free play, there is no need to keep points. Players will simply enjoy game time and the fun of moving towards the center to become the server. Players may come and go as they please.
Flush Style:
Flush style is great when you have a lot of people playing and need to move them more quickly. Begin with eight players on the court, leaving the middle square open. Do not let the ball drop in the empty middle square. If it does, you flush the game and everyone that was in the game is now out and eight new players fill the game. This is ideal for schools, large churches or just quick rotations.
